What You Should Know About Your Favorite Boy Band
When Niall Horan,
Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne decided to audition
for the seventh season of The X Factor,
little did they know that they would become the next generation’s equivalent of
The Backstreet Boys. This British-Irish boy band was the brainchild of Simon
Cowell who saw them audition separately for the show and then decided to band
them together, ultimately making the dreams of hundreds of thousands of tweens
around the world come true.
After signing with
Cowell’s own Syco Records in Britain and Columbia Records in North America, the
boys have gone on to release singles such as What Makes You Beautiful and Up
All Night. Their very first album (Up
All Night [2011]) went straight to the top of the charts and they instantly
became the first British group to top the American charts with their first record.
These days, Niall Horan has been linked to stars such as Demi Lovato, while
Harry Styles has been seen around with the likes of Natalie Imbruglia and Cara
Delevinge.
The success of 1D
has sparked an interest in the boy band concept once again - something that was
thought to be impossible after groups such as *N Sync and the Backstreet Boys went
their separate ways. So far, the boys have sold more than 12 million records,
and they are said to be worth $50 million already – quite an achievement for a
group of guys who were born in the 1990’s – and it seems the only way they are
headed is up.
